this project was a refurbishment and interior redesign of our first home. the key objective was to create a more free flowing space within this standard two bed semi detached house in east london. the first major intervention was to replace the existing straight flight staircase with a spiral stair. this saved considerable space in the lounge and also allowed the landing to be reduced in size, thus the first floor bathroom and master bedroom could be made substantially larger. the rooms were reconfigured around a new drum wall that followed the circumfrance of the spiral stair below.
partitions and hall lobbies were removed in order to create a more open plan arrangement on the ground floor. this allowed additional natural light into the living and kitchen spaces. the interior was designed to complement the open plan feel of the house. feature lighting to the bathroom gave this space an especially calm and relaxed atmoshere.
