this project involved a major masterplan for a 5* hotel and shopping mall complex located 70km from tehran city. the client had seen a commercial opportunity to create a 'middle eastern' shopping and leisure experience that would be of major significance as it would be the first development of this type in the country. the clients expressed that the concept for this development was the idea of it being an international destination. conrad's architectural philosophy grew from the idea of using air travel and the notion of the structure of an aircraft as the generator for the form of the building. the shopping mall was housed under a giant wing shaped roof, providing the connection to the ice rink, multiplex cinema, conference centre, ballroom, auditorium, and both the hotel and residential/office towers, which provide a strong architectural form & purpose to this scheme.
