the clients bought this turn of the century workers cottage in rural essex as their retirement property. as part of the refurbishment they wanted to extend the property to increase living space and also create a master bedroom that made the most of the countryside views to the rear of the property.

the rear extension has enabled replanning of a bigger and more open plan kitchen with integral utility room and down stairs w.c. the kitchen now overlooks the rear garden which was a key client request.

the first floor has been replanned to provide 2 no double beds and a bathroom, with an additional master bedroom and en-suite. the new roof follows the traditional lines of the property with a gable ended double pitched. the underside of the roof will be open to the master bedroom and the roof structure will be traditionally cut with king post trusses and rafters.

finally, the extension is finished with a substantial glazed garden room opening up the lounge area.
