we based the design on a modern day interpretation of the traditional scottish long cottage. the floor plans are of an open nature giving a great quality of space and light and the lounge area incorporates a dramatic double height space.
for this build we considered a number of envirnomental issues in order to construct a low carbon footprint project. the structural envelope was envisaged to be constructed from a timber framed system and therefore the air tightness of the building can be tightly controlled. a dedicated heat recovery system was specified to handle the ventilation requirements and reduce energy consumption.
with high insulation values for the walls, floor, windows and roof the multi fuel stove, in conjunction with the heat recovery unit, was planned to provide the majority of the buidings heating requirements. grey water will be collected and used to provide water for the garden.
