this masterplan was designed by conrad for a competition held by thurrock council who were looking to develop ideas for the redevelopment of the southern side of grays town centre. the site was bounded by a railway line to the north and the thames estuary to the south, and therefore one of the key design ideas was to create new public spaces fronting the river which would be linked back to the existing town centre. a new railway station was proposed to help link the competition site to the town centre, which would also provide a central hub for the community. a new public space was created around an existing church to the rear of the new proposed railway station which would form the meeting point for visual, pedestrian and transportation links to the existing town centre.
